Texas commits five errors as Red River Rivalry losing streak is extended to five games

Five errors doomed Texas in a 9-4 loss at No. 18 Oklahoma on Friday night.

The loss was UT's seventh straight in a series opener, and it dropped Texas (25-18, 11-8) four games behind the first-place Sooners (26-14, 15-4) in the Big 12 standings. Dating back to the 2022 Big 12 championship game, Texas has lost five straight games to its Red River rivals.

Texas entered the weekend and its first trip inside the Norman city limits since 2018 having not committed more than four errors in a game. But five different Longhorns were responsible for a defensive miscue at L. Dale Mitchell Park, leading to four unearned runs, and Oklahoma built a 4-0 lead against Texas starter Max Grubbs.

The Longhorns pulled within 5-2 but left the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

The threat of bad weather prompted a change in the rest of the series schedule. Saturday's game was rescheduled as part of a Sunday doubleheader (ESPN+, 1300) starting at 1 p.m. The second game will begin 45 minutes after the first game ends. Texas also will welcome back head coach David Pierce, who was suspended for UT's last two games.
