Most Texans probably haven’t heard of the Compassionate Use Program, which legalized medical marijuana for over 150 conditions in Texas. After several program expansions over the last few years, millions of Texans now qualify for medical marijuana.

Texas Original, the state’s leading medical marijuana provider, is paving the way to make it even more accessible for Texans across the state. Since opening the state’s first medical marijuana dispensary in 2018, Texas Original has brought cannabis medicine to patients across the state at more than 15 pickup locations.

More Texans can get legal medical marijuana than ever before. Here’s how to access the medicine under the state’s medical program.

Who is eligible for medical marijuana in Texas?

Under the Compassionate Use Program, more than 150 conditions are now eligible for medical cannabis. These conditions include:

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Peripheral neuropathy (nerve pain)
  • Spasticity (muscle spasms)
  • Cancer (any stage)
  • Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
  • Alzheimer’s and other dementias
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

Those unsure if they have a qualifying condition can schedule a telemedicine visit with a registered doctor.

Medical marijuana products are strictly regulated and rigorously tested to ensure that they are free of contaminants, heavy metals or residual solvents that are found in unregulated products.

How to get a medical marijuana prescription in Texas

First, book an appointment with a doctor enrolled in the Compassionate Use Program. Many registered doctors provide easy virtual visits through telemedicine so patients can get a prescription from anywhere in Texas. To be connected with a doctor, visit Texas Original’s website and fill out the form.During the visit, the doctor will review the patient’s medical history to confirm their eligibility for medical cannabis, and then develop a treatment plan. If approved, the doctor will enter the patient’s prescription into the state’s medical cannabis registry (CURT), where licensed dispensaries can access it.

Texas Original’s products include fast-acting medical marijuana gummies.

Once the appointment is complete and the prescription is on file, patients can place an order at a Texas medical marijuana dispensary. Visit Texas Original's website or call 512-614-0343 to place an order.
