The Austin Police Association will hold a news conference Tuesday to discuss several issues from the shooting of David Joseph, a teenager killed by officer Geoffrey Freeman last week.
David Joseph, 17, was shot and killed Monday by Austin police officer Geoffrey Freeman, sparking questions about the veteran officer’s actions before he pulled the trigger. Joseph was naked and unarmed, and both the deceased and the officer are black.
Freeman was responding to a disturbance at an apartment complex on East Yager Lane, police said. He spoke with several witnesses who said they saw a man chasing another man. Freeman arrived in his patrol vehicle and saw Joseph naked in the street. After the officer approached, Joseph charged at Freeman, and the officer opened fire, according to police.
